Description

General

This is a polylactic acid derived polymer (PLA) made by fermentation of starch containing agricultural products like potato (waste), rice, maize, tapioca, wheat and alike. Due to its biodegadability and thermoplasticity it is suited for orthopedic material. The rate of degradation can be varied. The degradation time is 2 to 4 months. It is e.g used as surgery thread because it is absorbt in the body.The polymerisation katalysts however are usually toxic. Residual catalyst content possess a risk for the patients when freed at degadation of the material.
