Flax fiber production mainly takes place in Europe and Russia. The flax plant can be harvested after 100-120 days. After harvesting, the retting process takes place in basins for gaining fibers. The bast is retted for several days. During retting the water in the basin is polluted with organic substances, but cleaned before draining off.
