Natural & Synthetic Polymers:

Elastomers

Elastomers is the subclass of polymers with rubberlike properties. It has at least an elongation of several hundreds percents. The deformation is fully reversable without damage. Rubber keeps constant volume during deformation. Conventional rubbers should be vulcanised to keep shape. Rubbers have in general superb resistance against wear and abrasion. In combination with its elastic behaviour it is the reason that it finds widespread application for seals, gaskets, o-rings and tyres. Specific elastomers have been developed for special purposes, like resistance to particular fluids.
