Zinc & Zinc Alloys

Zinc is a relatively cheap element. Zn alloys have an excellent castability, related with their low Zinc diagrammelting temperatures, and are therefore perfectly fit for casting from sand casting to injection moulding. Very low wall thicknesses are achievable and the surface hardly requires any after-treatment. Zn alloys offer a good corrosion resistance, especially against rain.

The strength of Zn alloys is relatively low, and their tendency to creep makes them unsuitable for use at temperatures above 100C. The low price and good casting properties justify the application in mass-production by injection moulding.
