Tungsten

Description

General

Strongest metal with the highest melting temperature of all metals. High hardness and corrosion resistance. At elevated temperatures the metal must be protected against oxidation by air. Pure tungsten can be forced, drawn and extruded. The thermal expansion is almost the same as for glass.

Tungsten is mainly mined from underground resources. Main producing countries are China with 48% and CIS with 21%. The remaining sites are distributed al over the world. The average metal content is 0.6%. In the US 20-30% is recycled. Tungsten has a resource index of 143 year.
