Environmental remarks Oak is imported from many countries within Europe; France (40%), Belgium (30%) and Russia (30%). The transport to the Netherlands requires 2 * 150km by trailers (from factory to forest and back) and another 180km by trailer for Belgium. From within France it takes 2 * 150km + 700km by trailers and 750km by coaster to get to Rotterdam; for Russia this is 2 * 250km + 850km by trailers and 1750km by coaster. The wood is usually sawn and dried in the exporting land.

Remarks (Origin: Europe (France, Belgium, Russia). Colour and texture: light- to yellow-brown. Smell: in fresh state sourish. Workability: generally good to machine (dependent on the width of the annual ring); bendable when pressurized with steam; easy to glue; good surface treatment possible (stain, varnish). Wood can become blue because of metal corrosion. Lower Heating Value 18.47 MJ
