Environmental remarks Bauxite winning locations ² Australia 37%, New Guinea 16%, Jamaica 9% en Brasil. Production countries are US 24%, CIS 13%, Canada 9% en Australia. The bauxite winning happens for 95% in surface winning, with draglines and trucks. Aluminium content of bauxite is 17 - 25% . In the Netherlands the average percentage use of scrap in the melt at the primairy smelters is 12%. To evalute the environmental impact associated with the application of aluminium, the total lifecycle should be regarded. The percentage recycled material is strongly dependent of the application. It ranges from almost 2% for packaging to 90% for solid profiles. In the Netherlands the average is 45%.
