Environmental remarks Manganese is not considered to be scarce. The resource index is 190 year. Metal content of the ore is between 20 - 51%. 90% is extracted in open mine winning. Main producing countries are CIS (31%), South-Africa (18%), Gabon (14%), Australia (12%). The transport is assumed to go by sea-ships. Large quantities of Manganese containing nodules on the ocean floors promise a enormous source of Manganese for the future

General

Remarks Manganese is is used for alloys. In steel it improves the strength, toughnes, hardness and wear resistance. With aluminium and with copper it forms highly ferromagnetic alloys. Manganese is gray-white hard and very brittle. It colours glass blue and decolours green glass (iron impurities)
