Environmental remarks 43% of the world production comes from the US and Canada. Another 30% of the world production is won in Siberia (Norilsk). There are two types of Nickel ore: sulphidic and oxidic ore. Sulphidic nickel ore is mainly extracted in underground mine winning and has 0,5-3% Ni content. Oxidic ore comes from daylight winning but has a lower metal content (0,9-1,4%Ni). The most important environmental problem is the SO2 emission associated with the refinery process.
