General Information: Cast Copper

The occurrence of copper in earth's crust is relatively small, which makes it expensive and recycling necessary. Excellent corrosion resistance and high electric and thermal conductivity govern many of the applications in e.g. electrics or decoration. In many cases, Cu is alloyed to increase mechanical and manufacturing properties and resistance against wear and corrosion. E.g. biphase alloys are often used for bearings. Alloying often has a negative effect on conductivity. Cast Cu is often alloyed with large amounts of Zn (brass) or Sn (bronze), decreasing the melting temperature, increasing casting properties.
