In the years ahead, containerized transport will keep on growing and in combination with exponential growth of trade imbalances in the world, the issue of unproductive repositioning and storage of empty containers will become worse.
Holland Container Innovations is a techno starter from the Delft University of Technology. In cooperation with the university, HC Innovations is developing a foldable or collapsible container. The innovative design and easy use will allow our clients to reduce empty transport over land and sea significantly, as well as the on land storage of empty containers.
The container is folded in four steps:
1. Flip the long sides inwards
2. Lift the roof, short sides will flip inwards
3. Lower the roof
4. The container is now folded and 20% of the original volume
The innovative design ensures fast and safe (un)folding.
This technology has been patented, but further research is continuing. HC Innovations is now developing an improved concept that will be patented soon.

Last november was a memorable month for us at Matbase, we passed the milestone of 1000 visitors per day. So I guess we were not that far of when we thought it would be a good idea to make the material database we used as students during our stay at the Delft University of Technology accessable to other people. Apparently, people appreciate the easy way they can lookup the material properties and how we present the data.
